More Moths...

We've been catching a few Beautiful Golden Ys this season

This Shoulder-striped Wainscote is potentially a first for the island.

True Lovers Knot - A rare moth on the island

We've reached the middle of the season here on the island. We had caught 1429 moths by the beginning of July and caught many more since. We record all the moths we find in traps and all field observations. I've been walking round a night with my net and this is paying off when I caught the first Pale-shouldered Brocade for 40 years!

We've been catching plenty of moths but we are still seeing very few butterflies. Hopefully July and August will be bumper moths. We normally see lots of Red Admirals during August.
